Break the Cylinder: Throw a Donut! with Nancy Ross

$170.00

Overview

  • Saturday, 1/24, 9:30am-12:30pm

  • Age 18 and up

  • Cost: $165 + $5 materials (all materials are included)

  • Students should be intermediate or more experienced on the wheel

Are you ready to break the mold? Making a donut vase begins by throwing a simple bottle form with 2 - 4 pounds of clay. Nancy will show you how to alter your freshly thrown pot to form a donut. If you can throw a well-made cylinder with 2 - 3 pounds of clay, you'll be thrilled by this simple alteration which will lead you to a conversation-starting pot.

About the Instructor:

After 50 years playing in the mud, I still thrive on the seductive quality of clay. With my aesthetic rooted in the wheelthrown functional vessel, I am especially intrigued by manipulating the perfectly thrown form. I found clay after getting a BA in studio art/painting in 1970 and returned for my masters in ceramics from JMU in 1980. I was a professor of ceramics at Mary Baldwin for 20 years ending in 2022 and at PVCC for 9 years until 2018. Currently I have been teaching dedicated, enthusiastic adults at City Clay Charlottesville and continuing doing a few craft shows each year.
