Stone Carving Basics: Letters & Low Relief with Bethany Lee

$125.00

Overview

  • Saturday, 8/9, 2:30-4:30pm

  • Ages 16 and up are welcome

  • Cost: $100 + $25 materials (all materials are included)

  • Beginners and returners welcome!

Discover the timeless art of stone carving using simple hand tools—no experience needed! In this two-hour class, you'll learn how to handle the three foundational tools of the trade and try your hand at carving both a letter and a simple low-relief design.

All materials are provided, including your own piece of limestone or soapstone to take home, carved with your unique design. Just wear closed-toed shoes and bring a willingness to pound on things until they turn out beautiful!

Moderate hand strength is helpful for this class, but the techniques are generally accessible to most people—no need to be a bodybuilder to enjoy the process.

This is a great introduction to a satisfying and meditative craft that you can pursue on your own with a few simple tools and for which there is an existing community that can provide guidance and support in your practice. There may also be additional follow up classes at Friendly City Clay, depending on the interest.
