Are you hoping to explore and articulate the meaning in the work you're making now? Are you interested in branching out into more conceptual art? Maybe you have a desire to generate more ideas but don't know how? In this writing and critique- based class, we'll go to the wellspring of what is most exciting and interesting for each participant, and practice together techniques for building a piece of art in response. Expect readings, discussion, and homework assignments designed to deepen your practice.
About the Instructor:
M Greenwald is a Virginia-based artist whose interdisciplinary practice incorporates weaving, natural dye, ceramics, and video. They explore themes of magic, the body, and land. M earned a BA in International Literary and Visual Studies from Tufts University and an MFA from James Madison University. They were twice awarded the Dehn Fellowship for travel and independent research from the Tufts and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, as well as a Graduate Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. They have attended residencies at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, MD, the Urban Soils Institute at the SWALE house on Governors Island, NYC, and TEXERE in Oaxaca, Mexico. They have exhibited work in Baltimore, New York, and Seoul and have roots in several beloved gardens.
Class Cancellations and Absence
Refunds minus a 10% or $20 processing fee (whichever is lower) are offered until 14 days before the start of class. After that, we do not offer refunds. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, so please be sure you can attend all sessions of a class, or that you are okay with missing any that you’ll be away for. You can find out more on our studio policies page.
